As part of his Global Neighbours Visiting Fellowship, Prof. Chung-In Moon appeared as the keynote speaker at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy in Switzerland.

The panel, titled Shifting Geopolitics and the Future of the Korean Peninsula, focused on analyzing the Korean Peninsula’s prospects for peace and security, considering its status as one of the world’s most volatile and consequestial security areas.

As a distinguished security expert and a central figure in the formation of South Korea's Sunshine Policy, Prof. Moon shared his perspectives on Seoul’s evolving strategy toward North Korea’s advancing nuclear program and explored how these dynamics intersect with broader regional and global shifts in power. He offered a nuanced assessment of how changes in global power relations across Northeast Asia and beyond affect the stakes for regional stability and international peace.

The discussion was further enriched by Margareta Wahlstrom, former UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction and President of the Swedish Red Cross, and Prof. Thomas Biersteker, a leading authority on international relations, UN sanctions, and institutional reform. All panelists engaged in the discussion for engagement with North Korea, highlighting implications for the international community.

We extend our sincere thanks to Ambassador Dr. Thomas Greminger, Executive Director of the GCSP, and Dr. Philipp Rösler, Secretary-General of Global Neighbours, for their thoughtful opening remarks, as well as to Dr. Linda Maduz for moderating the discussion.
