China’s AI server market doubled in first half

China’s market for accelerated servers reached $16 billion in the first half of 2025, more than doubling year-on-year, according to a report from research firm IDC on Oct. 9. The market is projected to exceed $140 billion in 2029.

TSMC’s revenue grows

TSMC’s consolidated revenue for September was about NT$331 billion ($10.3 billion), an increase of 31.4% year-on-year but a decrease of 1.4% month-on-month, the company reported on Oct. 9. For the first nine months of the year, cumulative revenue reached about NT$2.8 trillion, up 36.4% year-on-year.

National Day holiday box office falls 13%

Box office revenue during China’s eight-day National Day holiday fell 13% year-on-year to 1.8 billion yuan ($252 million), according to official data.

ASML appoints new chief technology officer

Dutch chipmaking equipment giant ASML on Oct. 9 named Marco Pieters as its new chief technology officer. Pieters has over 25 years of experience at ASML and will report to CEO Christophe Fouquet.

TCL completes acquisition of LG’s Guangzhou production line

TCL Technology Group Corp. announced Oct. 9 that a subsidiary has completed the acquisition of a Guangzhou-based LCD panel production line from South Korea’s LG Display for 11.1 billion yuan. The acquired company was consolidated into TCL’s financial statements in the second quarter of 2025.
